Turtle Brownies

browniepoints

I love turtle anything! If you love turtle candy you will love turtle brownies. I also included how to turn this recipe into a samoas style goodness. This recipe is decadent and delicious which just so happen to be all of the things that I am devoted too.  Trust me, these should come with a warning label.

Ingredients:

Brownie Layer

  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1 oz unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup of chopped  nuts (pecan or walnuts work best)

Carmel Topping

  • 40 Kraft caramels, unwrapped
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch square metal baking pan.

Make brownie layer:

Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a small bowl.

Melt chocolates and butter in a 2-quart heavy saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth, then remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm, then stir in brown sugar and vanilla. Add eggs 1 at a time, beating with a wooden spoon after each addition until mixture is glossy and smooth. Add flour mixture and stir until just combined. Stir in nuts.

Spread batter evenly in baking pan and bake in middle of oven until a tester comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes. Cool completely in pan on a rack.

Caramel:

Place caramels and cream in a saucepan, stir frequently on low heat. After all caramels are melted drizzle over warm brownies.

Optional: if you have extra nuts toast them and add them to the caramel mixture before adding to brownies. Other toppings to add are toasted coconut to make a samoas cookie brownie.

Thank you for reading my good blog and allowing me to share my recipes with you.  The power of our beliefs can work in either direction to become life affirming or life denying.
