Beet Juice

beets1

This is what I had for dinner and I am so full. I haven’t experimented with fruit aside from apples but I wanted to make something red. Naturally you would think berries but nope I wanted beets. Best decision I have made today. Beet juice isn’t so bad, in fact it was delicious.

Ingredients

  • 7 small empire apples
  • 1 lb carrots
  • ginger (I used 2 inches but this is always a use as much as you can stand ingredient)
  • 2 lbs of  beets
  • 1 lb grapes

Directions

Clean, wash and wash all fruit and vegetables. Peel and cut up beets be careful because beet juice is bright red and staining. Mix with ice and water and blend. You will end up with a deep rich red juice. It has a very strong beet flavor. I added a lot of apples and ginger and you can taste the beets very strongly. I did not mind.

This recipe made 1 gallon and I have been drinking it for 24 hrs. The fiber in the beets and carrots are very filling. I am not trying to meal replace but it’s hard to eat anything else after drinking a cup of this juice.

Thank you for reading my blog and allowing me to share my personal food journal with you.

Love the before and after shots. The finished product looks very good. It also happens to look like a daquery.

So would you say that shelling out the money for a good juicer is worth it? I have been considering it recently but I am on the fence about it.

If you are consistent I would say yes. I have a regular juicer by Bella and we paid $50 for it. 1. I disliked cleaning it and 2. it separated the pulp and I was throwing away 1/2 of the vegetables I was buying. So I eventually stopped using it. I didn’t like wasting the pulp and I would try to blend it with the juice and it would turn into a thick apple sauce texture.

I started using the Vitamix because a friend bought it and never used it. She wanted to leave it at my house because well — she didn’t want to waste her money (she paid $500). I have had it for a week and I have used it about 7 times. I love that it blends all of the vegetables into a juice and I am not wasting any pulp and it’s really easy to clean. There aren’t that many pieces and you can just rinse and go.

My only complaint about the Vitamix is the price. It’s expensive! I wouldn’t pay $500 for a juicer but on the plus side if I had to have a juicer
I would definitely save time and food and just splurge.

I am not trying to use it everyday but I love vegetables and this is an easy and efficient way for me to eat them everyday. I also love raw foods and the only thing you are mixing with the vegetables are water and ice. So it’s been fun for me to have.
